There are many barriers to communication and these may occur at any stage in the communication process. whether it is during speaking to other people or before hand when you are worrying what to say.

The use of jargon
 Over-complicated, unfamiliar and/or technical terms.
you can overcome this by using less technical terms so people can understand what you are saying.

Emotional barriers and taboos.
Some people may find it difficult to express their emotions and some topics may be completely 'off-limits' or taboo. You can overcome this by talking to other people with respect regarding their emotional barriers and taboos.

Physical Barriers
Physical disabilities such as hearing problems or speech difficulties.
Physical barriers to non-verbal communication. Not being able to see the non-verbal cues, gestures, posture and general body language can make communication less effective.
another example of a physical barrier is if one person is a large distance between another person so it is harder to communicate.
you could overcome physical barriers in certain ways, for example if you are talking to a deaf person make sure to use the correct sign language. Another way to overcome a physical barrier (long distances) is to set up a way to communicate (Skype etc.)

Language Barriers
Language differences and the difficulty in understanding unfamiliar accents.
An example of a language barrier could be a message that includes a lot of specialist jargon and abbreviations will not be understood by a person who is not familiar with the terminology used.
you could overcome Language barriers by using different ways to express what you are saying, if it is In different types of media or an expression.

Psychological Barriers
The psychological state of the receiver will influence how the message is received.  For example, if someone has personal worries and is stressed, they may be preoccupied by personal concerns and not as receptive to the message as if they were not stressed. You can overcome Psychological barriers by
finding something to calm you down, e.g. a stress ball.

Attitude Barriers
attitude barriers are behaviours/presentations that can prevent people from communicating effectively. An example could be  personality conflicts, poor management, resistance to change or a lack of motivation. you can overcome attitude barriers by finding something to motivate you/finding something that you look forward to when you finish what you find boring. (going to college/university).

Written Communication
Some barriers with effective communication are spelling or grammar errors that can stop points from getting across. an example could be in an E-Mail to someone and you use the wrong grammar and they get confused and end up doing the complete opposite of what you want to do. You can overcome Written barriers by using spell-check if you work in a computer environment or read it through twice to make sure.
